Hospital SEO is different from SEO for a single clinic. A hospital has many departments, dozens of doctors, sometimes several branches, and patients searching for very different things: a cardiologist for a parent, an emergency at night, a planned knee replacement. This guide covers what makes hospital SEO work in India, and what the NMC’s October 2026 guidelines mean for it.
Start with structure: one page per department and key procedure
Most hospital websites put every department on one long page, or hide services in a PDF brochure. Google can’t match a search for “knee replacement surgery” plus a city to a page that doesn’t exist. Give each department its own page, and each high-value procedure its own page under it, written for patients: who it’s for, how consultations work, what to expect, and recovery in general terms.
Doctor profiles that search engines and patients understand
Create a profile page for every doctor with their name, qualifications, registration number, specialty and OPD timings, linked from the relevant department pages. Under the NMC’s 2026 guidelines, hospitals should show these details for every doctor they feature, so this is now a compliance step as well as an SEO one.
Google Business Profile for each branch
Each branch needs its own verified profile with the correct name, address, phone number, hours and categories. Departments usually don’t need separate profiles; they’re better handled with clear website pages and accurate services on the hospital profile. Eligible doctors can have practitioner profiles where Google allows.
Technical basics that hospitals often miss
- Fast pages on mobile networks, especially department and doctor pages.
- One version of the website: http, https, www and non-www should all redirect to a single address.
- Structured data for the hospital, its departments and doctors.
- No important information locked in images or PDFs.
- A sitemap that includes every department and doctor page.
Content that answers real questions
Educational articles on conditions and procedures, reviewed by your clinicians, help patients and give Google more reasons to show your hospital. Keep them factual: the guidelines rule out success rates, testimonials, superlatives and offers as promotion.
Measure enquiries by department
Track calls, WhatsApp messages and form enquiries by department and branch, so you can see which parts of the hospital search is actually helping, and where to invest next.
