Background: on 13 October 2026 the National Medical Commission issued a clarification on electronic medical records, as reported by Nation Path on 19 October.
What was reported
According to the report, the NMC clarified that doctors may remotely authenticate eligible electronic clinical documents, such as laboratory, pathology and radiology reports, diagnostic interpretations and discharge summaries. The clarification keeps the doctor responsible: relevant clinical information must be reviewed before a record is signed, and a doctor cannot sign records without reviewing them.
What this means for your clinic
If your clinic or hospital uses consultants who report from another location, this removes some uncertainty about digital sign-off. It is a good moment to check that your software records who reviewed and signed each report and when, that each doctor uses their own credentials, and that your process makes review before signature the default. Check the NMC’s own notice for the exact wording before changing your workflow.
