A government board backs manufacture of a portable AI colposcope for cervical screening

India’s Technology Development Board has signed an agreement with Visakhapatnam-based Griva Healthcare to support commercial-scale manufacturing of GrivaVision, a portable AI-assisted digital colposcope, at a new facility in Kollam, Kerala. The device is a Class B non-invasive system that helps clinicians identify cervical pre-cancerous lesions. The item appeared in a Healthcare IT News briefs roundup dated 12 August 2026 (Healthcare IT News).

What this means for your clinic

For gynecologists, this is a sign that AI-assisted screening tools are moving from pilots to local manufacturing, which tends to bring prices down and availability up. The page does not give a price, a launch date or clinical results, so there is nothing to buy or promise yet. If you offer cervical screening, it is worth watching, and you can mention screening and early detection in your patient education. Do not claim AI-assisted detection in your own marketing until you actually use such a device, since NMC’s new advertising rules restrict unverifiable claims.
