Background: on 23 October 2026 Medical Dialogues published an analysis of how the NMC’s Guidelines on Ethical Advertising and Public Communication, issued on 6 October, apply to hospitals and other clinical establishments.
What was reported
The guidelines are titled for “Hospitals/Medical Institutions and Registered Medical Practitioners”, and their definition of hospitals and medical institutions draws on Section 2(c)(i) of the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act. That covers hospitals, maternity homes, nursing homes, dispensaries, clinics and similar establishments. The analysis notes that while the rules for individual doctors are enforced through medical councils, how the guidelines will be enforced against hospitals and clinical establishments is less clear.
What this means for your clinic
Don’t assume the new rules only bind individual doctors. If your nursing home, clinic or hospital runs its own website, social pages or ads, treat that content as covered: no testimonials, success stories, success rates, superlatives or offers, and show each featured doctor’s name, qualifications and registration details. Our hospital marketing page explains how we work within these rules.
